Description

Salted Caramel Apple Crumble Bars are a fall favorite featuring a buttery shortbread crust, spiced apple filling, crumbly oat streusel, and a rich salted caramel drizzle. Perfect for holiday gatherings, cozy autumn treats, or a simple homemade dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Shortbread Crust:

1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted

1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour

Apple Filling:

2 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Streusel Topping:

1/2 cup (43g) old-fashioned rolled oats

1/3 cup (70g) packed light or dark brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup (31g) all-purpose flour

1/4 cup (56g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Salted Caramel Drizzle:

Homemade or store-bought salted caramel sauce

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

Combine melted butter, sugar, vanilla, salt, and flour to make shortbread dough. Press into the pan and bake 15 minutes until lightly golden.

Toss apple slices with flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.

Combine oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour for streusel. Cut in cold butter until coarse crumbs form.

Spread apples evenly over baked crust, then sprinkle streusel on top.

Bake 30-35 minutes until streusel is golden and apples are tender.

Cool at least 20 minutes before drizzling with salted caramel.

Cut into bars and serve.

Notes

Use a mix of sweet and tart apples like Honeycrisp and Granny Smith for best flavor.

Chill bars before cutting to keep layers neat.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
